About OPEH

  1. The Objective of OPEH

    The Open Period Education and Health Project, or OPEH for short, is an open-source initiative to provide free, anonymous and private reproductive healthcare education in an increasingly digital world. We aim to provide clear, objective and accessible information about menstruation, reproductive health and management of reproductive health, while addressing the unique legal, environmental, social, cultural and data privacy challenges that arise in our contemporary digital and political landscape.

  2. OPEH's Zero-Data Privacy Principles

    As it relates to the protection of those who seek reproductive, menstrual or otherwise intimate healthcare, the OPEH Project has but one singular driving principle, that of Zero-Data. In a world of increasing intrusion, prosecution, data gathering and analysis, profiling and overall a time of decreased security for women and the marginalized in modern digital society, which is an act born from concrete patriarchal, capitalistic control interests, the only moral position to take, whenever feasible at all is that of collecting absolutely no identifying information at all. Information is the modern age’s greatest weapon and it’s collection outside of the strict purposes of protected healthcare services, such as Medical Information, Clinical Data, and otherwise all information a healthcare professional might require to provide a safe and functional service, is not only unnecessary, it is also actively dangerous.

    An act as trivial to intimate health management as the regular tracking of one’s menstrual cycle can be weaponized, initiating from something as “innocuous” in our day to day life, even though objectively it is troubling and deeply invasive, as Targeted Advertisements, to the risk of prosecution for laws aimed at diminishing the medical independence of women everywhere. This represents an active and present danger in the digital landscape, and one that Medical and Legal Professionals, as well as Developers must combat actively.

    OPEH fights this issue actively from our website to our partnered application the ULA Period Tracker, OPEH aims to collect exactly no identifying information. This includes communications for feedback, recommendations, and clarifications, insofar as possible within the constraints of currently used platforms such as Alphabet, Inc.,’s Google Workspace platform, or Meta’s Instagram platform [About Meta and Flo Health]

  3. The Legal Question

    The question at the forefront of the fight for Data Privacy, especially as it regards Data of a Sensitive Nature, and of the fight for Education and Access to Intimate Healthcare is that of the constant legal battle fought on the basis of the “protection of children”, i.e. Fetuses, and more commonly the arguments of Gendered Religious Bioessentialism. The nigh medieval laws passed and even proposed in recent years is, to put it gently, atrocious and criminalizes the providing and seeking of abortive healthcare, regardless of the reason in some cases. At OPEH we hold that the reason is, at best, non-important. Abortive, Intimate and Sexual Healthcare should be readily and freely available to all who desire it.

    This claim includes, but is not limited to the access to Contraceptive Methods, Mechanical or Chemical, the access to Termination Healthcare, the freedom of Contraceptive Decisions, such as the free independent decision for hysterectomies, without the required input of a third party, the access to regular healthcare, especially as it concerns the equal treatment of pain and symptoms often ignored either willingly, or via educational bias.
